Gonzalez dominates with pole position, fastest lap and race win in Zhuhai

The 1st round of 2018 Asian Formula Renault took place in Zhuhai International Circuit last week. Fielding 8 racing cars, BlackArts Racing clinched two winners, one runner-up and one third place, and is now ranking the 1st on teams’ championship.

In Race 1, Antolin on pole position had an excellent start and leaded into Turn 1. Although the safety car was brought out twice during the race due to accidents, which weakened Antolin’s leading dominance, he managed to keep a good racing pace and crossed the finish line first. The young Spanish finished his first maiden AFR race with a perfet Pole-Win-Fastest lap Grand Slam.

Starting from the 5th, Daniel Cao had a quick start and overtook Louis Prette round the outside in Turn 1, jumping to the 3rd. He then tried closing the gap with Luo Kailuo in the 2nd place, but the safety car interrupted his attack pace. Finally, he finished the 3rd and held another podium position for the team.

Ryan Liu, who started from 7th, met a clutch problem and went to the back of the field during the start. However, Ryan immediately got back into the race, and managed to overtake 15 cars continuously. With a great deal of desire and determination, Ryan finished the 6th in the race.

David Pun and Thomas Luedi, starting from 10th and 11th respectively, also devoted strong performances. They both managed to improve their position in the tense battle of the middle grid, and passed Ni Weiliang and Eshan Pieris to finish the 7th and 8th.

In the Elite Class, Eric Sun had a strong performance in his maiden race, finishing the 3rd. Matteo Radicioni from Italy finished the 4th. And the other young driver Oscar Lee unfortunately lost control and crashed the car on Lap 7.
